Day 2 – Giza Pyramids & Step pyramids of Sakkara

Hopefully you will have had a chance to get settled into your hotel last night and experience a bit of Egypt! The morning will start out bright and early with breakfast.

Once you are fueled up for the morning you will meet with your Egyptologist.

From the hotel you will first travel to the monumental Pyramids of Giza. One of the original seven Wonders of the World, the enormity and beauty of the pyramids will wow you. Take pictures, explore the pyramid complex, and learn about their history up close and personal.

Don’t worry, we aren’t done with the Pyramids at Giza yet. Your time appreciating pyramids continues as you eat lunch (included in your program package) at a famous restaurant located near the pyramids.

From the Pyramids of Giza you will travel to the step pyramids of Sakkara — another historic and unique set of pyramids that only Egypt can offer. Your live history lesson continues as you learn about the building of the step pyramids and their historic significance.

The rest of the afternoon and evening are yours to explore the area. Hit up the garden district or one of the hotels’ fabulous restaurants. You can relax by the pool, appreciating the view, or dive into modern day Cairo after a full day of living through history. Day 3 - Travel to and Explore Luxor

We will depart for the airport and fly to Luxor (about an hour flight) bright and early. We will explore as much of Luxor as we can in our day here. Your Egyptologist will be with you every step of the way: teaching you about Egypt, guiding you through the airport and historical locations, and answering all of your questions. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

We will be visiting the elaborate Luxor Temple. Luxor Temple is unique as it was not built to worship a specific deity but is representative of all kings. This is our first stop of the day after the airport.

Next, you will head over to the Karnak Temple, the second most visited historic place in Egypt (after the pyramids). Enjoy a large, ancient complex that includes an open air museum and parts of the temple that are open to the public.

In the afternoon we will check in with our cruise and board. Make sure you get settled in quickly, because you will not want to miss a moment of floating down the Nile River and seeing Egypt from a very unique perspective, one that many individuals in Ancient Egypt witnessed as they were utilizing the Nile for transportation and commerce.

Day 4 - Cruise and Adventuring around Luxor

Valley of the Kings — This valley is home to the tombs of 63 pharaohs and nobles. While not all of the tombs are open to the public, visiting the valley is an awesome addition to this 6 Day adventure package. Located on the West Bank of the Nile River, you will tour the area where, for over 500 years, pharaohs and nobles were laid to rest.

Hatshepsut Temple: Though the cliffs at Deir el Bahari seem to dwarf this stunning temple, its size will amaze you. Located near the Valley of the Kings, this temple was used as a mortuary temple with which to honor Pharaoh Hatshepsut after who it was built.

Colossi of Memnon: These massive statues set on a stunning backdrop of Egyptian terrain. These columnal statues were built in resemblance of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. While time has taken its toll on the Colossi of Memnon, they remain an iconic tourist location and give a peek into the ancient world.

Habu Temple: This is the temple of Ramses III and it is massive. About 150 meters long with tall walls and beautiful inscriptions and art, this temple is well preserved and was strongly built. This is a great stop on the tour and one that is sure to impress!

after you make all of those visits, the boat will sail to edfu

overnight cruise-Full board

Day 5 - Sail to Edfu & Komombo

Our first stop of the day is to one of the most well preserved locations from the ancient world: the Temple of Edfu. This temple was built to honor Horus, the falcon god. One of the unique parts of this temple is how important the inscriptions are. Not only are they beautiful, but they

provide a very crisp view into religion, temples, and life in ancient Egypt.

Next we will visit the Kom Ombo Temple a unique and somewhat uncommon double temple. One half of the temple is dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek, who represents fertility. The other half is dedicated to the falcon god, Horus, which probably sounds familiar as the Temple of Edfu is also dedicated to this god.

Then it is time to head back to the boat. Make sure you hydrate and get plenty of rest! At this point it is just over halfway through the trip

Day 6 - Philae Temple & Obelisk

This is the last full day and night on the cruise, so enjoy it while it lasts. There are two stops on today’s agenda, both are awesome! The first stop is Philae Temple, an ancient complex central to the ancient religious world and a favorite topic and location for ancient writers. For the second stop, we will step away from temples and visit an ancient obelisk. The particular one we will visit  is the unfinished Obelisk which is also the largest ancient obelisk that was constructed.

For our next stop we will travel from ancient to medieval times when we visit the Citadel of Saladin (also known as the Cairo Citadel). This was an Islamic fortification and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mosque of Muhammad Ali. You will have passed this stunning structure that acts as the cornerstone of Cairo, visible when you enter from almost any side. A historic religious monument as well as a tourist stop, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali is rich with history and culture.

Next you will visit several Coptic Orthodox Churches in the area. Your Egyptologist will provide you with all of the fascinating information as you enjoy the ancient beauty of some of the oldest Churches in Cairo. You will visit the Hanging Church, Saint Sergius and Saint Bacchus Coptic Orthodox Churches, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.
