Day 3 – Luxor Adventure

We will depart from the airport to take a 60-minute flight to Luxor bright and early. We will explore as much of Luxor as we can in our day here. Your Egyptologist will be with you every step of the way teaching you about Egypt, and its many historical locations, and of course, answering all of your questions.

The Valley of the Kings is probably something you learned about in history class. This Valley is home to the tombs of 63 pharaohs and nobles. While not all of the tombs are open to the public, visiting the valley is an awe-inspiring experience during your Egyptoria adventure. Located on the West Bank of the Nile River, you will tour the area where for over 500 years pharaohs and nobles were laid to rest.

The Hatshepsut Temple is another great stop on this long day of sightseeing. Though the cliffs at Deir el Bahari seem to dwarf this stunning temple, its size will amaze you. Located near the Valley of the Kings, this temple was used as a mortuary temple with which to honor Pharaoh Hatshepsut after who it was built.

The Colossi of Memnon are a set of massive statues set on a stunning backdrop of Egyptian terrain. These columnal statues were built in resemblance of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. While time has taken its toll on the Colossi of Memnon, they remain an iconic tourist location and give a peek into the ancient world.

We will end the night with a visit to Luxor Temple and you will be able to appreciate its full effect. Luxor Temple is unique as it was not built to worship a specific deity but is representative of all kings.

Next on your agenda is bed! You will be staying in one of these hotels and are subject to availability.

Sonesta St. George Luxor Hotel

Day 4 - Explore the Karnak Temple & Cairo

You will start your day with a stop at the Karnak Temple. The Karnak Temple is the second most visited historic place in Egypt after the pyramids. Called the most revered place in Ancient Egypt is located on the eastern bank of the Nile River, opposite Luxor. In ancient Egypt, the construction of the temples always began at the sanctuary, which means that Karnak began in the center and finished building at the entrances to the enclosure.

Next, you will head back to the airport and hop a flight back to Cairo where the rest of the trip will be spent. After you land you will head to the Egyptian Museum which has over 120,000 ancient artifacts. This is a must-see museum and one of the popular stops on the trip.

Day 5 - Alexandria

We have set aside a full day tour of Alexandria for you. The most ‘modern’ of the ancient cities, you are sure to witness some amazing architectural feats, amazing ruins, and the integration of Greco-Roman influence into Egyptian culture. There is so much to see and so little time so come ready to explore and learn from your Egyptoria guide all along the way.

The tour includes four stops. The first is Pompey’s Pillar, a beautiful 82-foot-high pillar is a staple stop on a tour of Ancient Egypt. This pillar was built to honor Emperor Diocletian in AD 297, which makes in one of the newest ancient places you’ll visit.

Next, you’ll visit the Catacombs where you can truly see Greco-Roman influence. You will walk down a spiral staircase to view these tombs, where over 300 mummies were buried.

The third stop in today’s tour includes a visit to the New Library of Alexandria, this modern library located near the Mediterranean Sea is a fusion between appreciating modern art and culture and commemorating the original Library of Alexandria which was destroyed.

Finally, you’ll visit a Roman Theater, this ancient theater that demonstrates the strong Greek influence in this part of Egypt and makes it obvious why Alexandria was the center of Greek culture during Hellenistic time.
