Day 4 - Alexandria
Your Egyptoria guide has set aside a full day tour of Alexandria for you. Named for Alexander the Great when he liberated Egypt from Persian rule. Situated at the mouth of the Mediterranean it was sheltered from the ebbs and flows of the Nile River.
Its architect, Dinocrates, followed used a layout that established the use of blocks, water pipes, gardens, and one of our most lasting inventions, the Museum. King Ptolemy I Soter that contained all the knowledge of the time. The most ‘modern’ of the ancient cities, you are sure to witness some amazing architectural feats, amazing ruins, and the integration of Greco-Roman influence into Egyptian culture. There is so much to see and so little time, so come ready to explore and learn.
We will make a stop at Pompey’s Pillar, a beautiful 25-meter-high pillar (about 82-feet) that pillar was built to honor Emperor Diocletian in AD 297. Touted as the ‘newest’ of the ancient places to visit, this is a great place to explore.
Next is the Catacombs, a place where you can truly see Greco-Roman influence. You will walk down a spiral staircase to view these tombs, where over 300 mummies were buried.
Now you will move into modern times, visiting The New Library of Alexandria. This modern library located near the Mediterranean Sea is a fusion between appreciating modern art and culture and commemorating the original Library of Alexandria which was destroyed.
The last stop is the Roman Theater, an ancient theater that demonstrates the strong Greek influence in this part of Egypt and makes obvious why Alexandria was the center of Greek culture during Hellenistic time. Day 7 - Head to Luxor
Today’s tour is one that sets Egyptopia apart from other tours. Most tours only have a few locations where they can pull back a priceless curtain that makes the layers of a visit. Very few have the opportunity to see behind the amazing temple Kom Ombo.
The Kom Ombo temple is one of the most important Egyptian temples due to its architectural and religious distinction. It was rare to have a temple dedicate to two deities together, Sobek and Horus.
To give you an idea of what you’ll see the Temple of Kom Ombo is located on a hilltop overlooking the eastern bank of the Nile. The date of the foundation of the temple goes back to the era of Ptolemy VI, but the building work and engravings continued until the era of King Ptolemy XIII.

Located near the Valley of the Kings, this temple was used as a mortuary temple with which to honor Pharaoh Hatshepsut after whom it was built.
The Colossi of Memnon are a set of massive statues set on a stunning backdrop of Egyptian terrain. These columnal statues were built in resemblance of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
